Nm 21:4-9
Ps 102:2-3, 16-18, 19-21
Jn 8:21-30
Jesus sense of identity is clear to him, and that God is always with him. He recognizes that only through his passion will people come to recognize His true identity according to John's gospel. Just as God hears the cry of the afflicted in the Old Testament book of Numbers and responds to the call of the Psalmist, God remains true to the people and gives them the proof that they need. The personal price that Jesus anticipates paying is very high. He chooses to please God by his actions, knowing God is with him and that it is through this that his actions and words flow.
Instead of choosing to condemn, Jesus chooses to reveal the depth of his knowledge of the
One who sent him.
